Everyone has a mark that represents them, though they don't know what it is right away or even on their own. And whenever someone falls in love, the mark of the one they love appears on their body- a gold star on the cheek, a scattering of flowers on the wrist- your mark will show up the same shape, color and location on those who truly know and love you. While romantic love is the most common, it shows up for platonic love as well and it isn't uncommon to have multiple at a time throughout your life. It is only when someone's impact fades from your heart that their mark fades from your skin- even hatred can sometimes let a mark remain.

A soulmark never disappears, not completely. But only a true, selfless love can make them emerge.

1. a new mark : perhaps something happened last night. or maybe a few days ago. but this morning you've awoken with a new mark... so what happened? and what now?

2. quite the history : over the years, you've gotten more than your fair share of marks.some look as faded and thin as a pencil sketch. some are just as vibrant as the day you got them. why not share some stories?

3. a river in egypt : no way. no. way. this cannot be happening- any mark but THEIRS! ... unfortunately, however, the mark is very real and you have to acknowledge it eventually. or maybe. right now? because that person is here now.

4. do your own thing! i'm not your mom. just have fun!

[That's enough to make him settle down, and Hiiro will hear when the soft sounds of Mayoi's tears start to quiet down. It seems like maybe he won't come down, after all? But then, carefully he starts to move towards the opening.]

P-Please ...mind the vent shaft, Hiiro-san. I'm... I'm coming down.

[Even in this state, he is going to fuss.]

[But once Hiiro gives him enough room he will ease back out of the ceiling and settle in front of him. He's still missing his shirt, so the marks are still on display, and Mayoi's face is gross from his own crying, but he's there. He isn't running from Hiiro any longer.]

( hiiro scoots back instantly and waits, hands on his knees as he watches for mayoi. and the moment the other is settled onto the bed in front of him, hiiro is quick yet surprisingly gentle to wrap his arms around him in a warm embrace. )

You deserved better.

( his voice is quiet but firm- a declaration. a promise. )
