for reference in ffix canon, something i'm interested in tweaking as needed for the sake of schlocky fun pet rp: Garland + his people's deal is almost a mix of the nabateans AND agarthans; aliens who came to the setting to make it their new home by siphoning its life into theirs, and were wiped out by the planet rejecting them like a foreign organ. their souls sleep in stasis underground, and Garland has schemed for eons to bring their revival at everyone else's expense. ]
