Hello, and welcome to The Care and Keeping of Your Pet! As you surely know, a pet is a big responsibility, and we're so glad you've decided to be a concientious master. A safe pet is a happy pet, and this handbook is certain to keep your precious lifelong friend as content as can be.
The history of the animal person is a long and difficult one, with their origins not being known even to this day. However, scientists believe that despite our common appearance - most animal people have humanoid forms except for the ears, tails, and sometimes teeth - we share no common ancestry, even if the ascent of this species corresponds with that of the homo sapien. We gained dominance over each breed thousands of years ago, beginning with the dog type, who have long been considered "man's best friend." Most breeds these days are docile and perfect for owners of any speed.
Of course, it is our duty as the superior species to take care of these animal creatures, and this is inherent in their genetic makeup. Everyone knows that an animal person, when matched with their correct human master, is loyal for life - a true "soulmate," if you will. Far be it for us to turn this away! Ever since the Great Domestication, these intelligent and loving animals have served us as friends, workmates, guardians, servants, and sexual companions and will for years to come. Despite recent hubbub from so-called "Pet People's Rights Activists," this way of life is wholesome and good. Scientific research shows that the natural desire of the pet person is to be owned and cared for by a human.
So, it's your first pet. What do you need to know?
As previously stated, pet people come in as many breeds as you can possibly think of. By far and away the most popular are the dog and cat types, but exotic birds and lizards have been gaining popularity among trendsetters from L.A. to Tokyo!
All pet types are best suited for certain jobs, and when hunting for one, it is best to search for a type that suits your needs best.
However, a "True Match" - when a pet person bonds with you and only you for the rest of their natural lives - comes naturally, and sometimes takes time before you can find the pet you will be able to give a forever home to.
According to all current research, pet people are completely sentient and like us in many ways. However, it is important to remember that they have many animalistic and feral characteristics. Do not be foolish and think that your pet is a person, despite the facts that many are clothed and may be allowed to read, write, and have "hobbies." Some traditional pet owners may eschew these frivolities, and that is within their right.
Pet people age more quickly than humans, at least physically, and many types have long lifespans. It is not uncommon for pets to be passed through the family. When getting your child their first pet, it's important to keep in mind that just because the pup is tiny now, a grown pet can be jumpy around a small child.
It is important to train a pet. Discipline will be necessary. This does not make you a bad owner. Failure to train early will result in a rebellious pet. Training is especially important if you want your pet to serve as a household servant.
Remember, your pet will be extremely protective of you, especially if you are Truly Bonded. It is best to socialize them early. A socialized pet is a perfect family pet.
These days, unowned and unbonded pet people are allowed to live as strays or "Frees" in certain designated areas. Some even hold "jobs." This is against their best interest, and owners who adopt these strays are to be rewarded. Still, the best place to get pets are from liscenced kennels or breeders.
Some masters find it beneficial to participate in activities with their pets, such as shows and other competitions.
Finally, much has been made about the sexual relationship between pet and master. This is a normal facet of the bond, and humans are sure to find pet people sexually alluring. But beyond that, it is only responsible and prudent for owners to care for their pet's needs. It is a well-known fact that the libidos of pet people are remarkably strong, and when they go into heat, it is usually more convenient for a master to relieve them. There is no risk of pregnancy. All rumors of hybrids are urban legends.
Despite this, masters must remember to not view their pets as romantic partners. Humans should stay with humans.
With that said, thank you and welcome to your first day as a pet's master! |

as a master he "acts" like just a college kid but comes from a wealthy if not fucked up backround, and he's either been granted a pet or he's already disowned. )
sighs give me pet vic... jealousy/heatkink/theyre in love
He is so sorry about this.
No matter how much he apologises, it still feels wrong to him, especially given Vic's past. In the end, people say it doesn't matter, but it does to Harque, who has a certain naive innocence about the way things work. He's a gentle soul. He probably needs to be guarded. Especially, especially from all of the suitors that come into the halls of the manor trying to get his attention. Harque has no interest in them, mostly because he's nursing a crush on Vic instead, which is... well. He's not supposed to do that. But then again, he's not supposed to do a lot of things.
So here he is. In love. Campaigning for pet rights. Having no idea that Vic's probably seething with jealousy over all the people who take Harque's hand and try to court him.
Also, goes without saying, Harque was raised religiously. He has no idea what "heat" is, he doesn't know anything, he's always wearing like thirty layers of clothing. Today, they're in Harque's room while he reads, and he just has... no idea about anything. He's studying. He's being good. Please be gentle when you break his spine Vic ty—]

GOING MASTER!VIC since you expressed interested in going pet on my top level
There's just one problem.
You see, besides their novelty, Garland's monkeys are known for something else: unquestioning obedience and train-ability, of a kind unseen in any other line of the same animal. It's more like a dog, than a simian. In fact... what Garland's really made his money on is that they're exceedingly popular as replacements for the tragically passed. If what you miss is your old pet's personality--
It can be said that a Genome will learn to be just what you miss most, if you only show them how.
for deluxe clients in on the secret, it doesn't even have to a matter of training, he For-Real just puts their soul right in there
...
Victor definitely got a lemon, because whether he minds it or not, Kuja came with a personality. This is completely not the pet anyone expected he was getting. He's vain, lazy, opinionated on even the littlest things, and worst of all, when the people he's decided have the real power are watching (victor's family, natch), he acts exactly like he's expected to.
Imagine getting gaslit by your pet cat over whether it knows it's allowed to be on the furniture or not. ]

mafuyu asahina ♡ project sekai ♡ ota
as a master she's gentle and kind, but notably reliant on her pet for comfort - given her home life, it's no wonder. she worries about the pet being taken away if she somehow doesn't satisfy her mother's standards... and it's a very real worry. )
Heat (oh god i'm so sorry for this novel)
The first thing she learned when her breeder had finally found someone willing to pay their exorbitant price for her, was that Lady Asahina was a woman who valued appearances. She was wealthy, extravagently so, but she was careful in how she expressed that. She wasn't tacky; from the colors of the rooms to the art on the walls, everything matched with soft, cool colors. It was simply meant to highlight their positions in this world - herself a homemaker involved in local political and social circles, her husband a doctor, and their beloved daugher studying hard to follow in his footsteps - rather than shine a spotlight on it.
It was the main reason why she had bought Kanade for Mafuyu. Many of the local breeders were all about showing off in a stifling way, from rare breeds to bright fur or feather or scale patterns that took them years to perfect. Macaws with feathers so bright they almost seemed to glow, chameleons who could match any color or pattern. They were highly sought after, but she sought out something with a more ethereal beauty for her daughter. So Kanade, with her silver-furred ears and tail that matched so well with her hair, so beautiful but not flamboyantly so, had been gifted to Mafuyu several years ago - a surprise for scoring at the top of her class upon graduation.
"If my dear daughter is going out in the world soon, she deserves a pet that can truly compliment her. One that can glow just as well as she can!"
... And they'd been inseparable since. Kanade was the perfect accessory; Mafuyu had given her the companionship she so desperately craved, that light in the stifling dark of loneliness that had threatened to smother her since she was a kit, and she was content to be the pretty little thing that trailed after Mafuyu during social events, always two steps behind, ears pulled back in a constant show of submission. Nobody questioned how close such a well-behaved, quiet pet was to her master, and so nobody questioned those times where she'd occasionally nudge against Mafuyu's side, or brush her hand against Mafuyu's. Those times she could sense the stress starting to twist itself up inside of Mafuyu, threatening to choke her or tear her apart inside.
Constant touch. Small gestures like that in public, or in private where she'd curl herself around Mafuyu and let her run her fingers through her hair or along her tail for hours on end until that tension coiling inside of her eases. It was this comfort that she was most happy to give Mafuyu, and she never once failed in providing it.
So it killed her, when her heat had come on fast. Her heats were unfortunately irregular, a result of somewhat frail health, so she wasn't always able to track them. She thought she'd be fine, at least for another few days or so, but she woke up burning, like there were warm coals resting just beneath her skin. Even the act of dressing for the evening - a suit so dark blue it was nearly black, with silver embroidery along the lapels and cuffs - was torture, the fabric almost feeling like sandpaper as it rubbed against her skin. She just wanted out, to find a way to cool this fire burning inside of her, to... to...
But no. She had to keep up appearances. So she pushed that feeling down, fangs biting on the inside of her cheek, and fell a few more steps behind Mafuyu than usual. Kanade hated it, but she couldn't touch her like this...
It was easy to keep quiet and keep her head bowed as Mafuyu made the rounds, chatting to her mother's friends and her father's coworkers. But as time went on, as the guests' focus shifted from Mafuyu back to her parents... it was hard, to remain in control. Kanade's steps fell a bit heavier behind Mafuyu, her breathing going just a little ragged. And should Mafuyu turn to her, she'll see Kanade's face flushed, looking somewhat clammy. But all throughout this, she doesn't say a word.]

pet!kuja. symbolic secret keeping....
That's why the pet trader lied about his actual species. That's why Mafuyu('s mother) had picked him out. He really seemed like an excellent cat. He was fully grown, would even read to entertain himself, and kept himself impeccably groomed. Kuja came home with Mafuyu with a pair of fluffy cat ears astride his head -- and when she woke up the next morning, and took a look over at the handsome silver cat still dozing by the windowsill... two things had abruptly changed in the night.
Her cat had lost his ears, and he'd turned a dazzling, ruby red, in the morning sun. ]

[It made him feel wretched, but he could only refuse so many times. Finally he caved and …started to look. He thought perhaps if he could give a pet a nice home, that would be doing his part from letting them fall into the wrong hands. He found this particular breeder not because of their high quality pets, but because rumors of their pets being …troubled tipped him off. He would try to take in one of them. Maybe that would redeem his guilt of doing this at all when in reality he was…]
[With the papers signed, and the breeder ecstatic that an idol had chosen one of their pets, Mayoi made sure to have everything ready for her arrival. His apartment wasn’t huge and luxurious, but it was nice by most people’s standards, and he made sure she had plenty of space for her comfort. He could only hope that eventually she might recover from whatever this breeder put her through with some time and care.]
[And perhaps she might not immediately resent him for existing. After all, he does not smell completely human himself. He wonders if she will figure out the truth.]

Kanade Yoisaki | Project Sekai | F/F for shipping, OTA for anything else
As a pet, Kanade is a very elegant snow fox, with soft ears and a tail that match her long, silvery hair. She was the last kit born of her breeder's prized female, and so she's treated as a rarity meant to be sold for her beauty. But losing her mother and being separated from her red fox father, as well as her owner's high expectations in terms of price, means that Kanade's grown up quite a lonely fox, desperate for any kind of connection.]
no ship only *extreme enthusing over his pretty cute silver fox*
Money is no object to Lord King.
Kanade isn't his first pet. She probably won't be his last. The man's capricious, he wanted something new and pretty and unknown to occupy his attention -- all his many long-game endeavors he's currently nothing to do but wait on, his patience is fraying to a thin strand. He needs some new light and joy in his life.
Options are what he's clawed and scrambled to have nothing but, and Kanade was the answer to a long list of qualifications: Not too rambunctious. Not too little, and physically dependent on someone whose attention is oft called elsewhere's, by his own master, but, that's the big secret, isn't it. Kuja is nothing if not an incurable aesthete, so of course they had to be a stunning sight. It couldn't be something weak, either, or as dumbly loyal as a dog. A fox? Perfect, they're clever things, aren't they? And they straddle the line delightfully, between what you expect of cat, or dog--
Three days ago, the transaction was finalized. Today is the day Kanade is delivered unto her new.. residence.
From the outside, it looks like exactly the kind of house someone who could afford her would have. But there really are very few lights on, inside, for such a huge building. ]
Kuja / Final Fantasy IX / OTA
kuja would be both! as a master, he's smug and playful toward his prize companion, deeply possessive to whatever he's deemed worthy of being his, and much more openly affectionate and indulgent than he would ever be on even terms. the sweet comes with a deep current of bitter, though-- he's a definite sadist, that loves seeing how far someone can be pushed, and his childish ire is easily incited. he'd never wanna ruin his pet for real, though! ...if you were that weak all along, he really overestimated you. aw, poor thing. he didn't mean it. it's natural, really, you're on such different levels -- let's fix you up.
one thing can be said is that as long as he still cares to keep you... he is never cold, to what's his.
(...even as a master, he's secretly a furry still.)
as a pet the real mental illness begins.AS A PET: do you like cats? that's great. this isn't a cat, though he fronts a lot LIKE a very well-manicured, dainty, luxury-loving one. this is more of a massively neurotic maltreated dog situation, who really really wants to be a Good Boy but also consciously hates the idea of ever being anyone's Good Boy ever fuck you for trying to tell him what to do. he's a liar, an extortionist, and a thief-- and whatever it is you care for most, it should be him, dammit....metaphors aside, though, this is actually a curious monkey. his tail keeps grabbing things! even though he tries to hide it if you call too much attention to it. it's so cute. his coat color on his documents says red, but on first glance seems to be silver...?
long termly... he's the sort of pet that responds to the temperament of his master. one thing he'll always do is test boundaries. is this allowed? is this still not? do you still care about this? do you still pay attention when he does that?
there's nothing worse than someone who just doesn't care, and he'll go to wild lengths to earn the attention of someone who doesn't seem to. ]
Seteth | Fire Emblem: Three Houses | OTA
As a pet, Seteth is probably a dragon or wyvern, and liable to be a working pet in some capacity himself. Generally, he's loyal and obedient, very role-conscious, and fussy to the point of overprotective meddling. dragon and or wyvern, you said.
in this scenario i'd say seteth is, by necessity, in on all of his master's secrets: he's defs way older than kuja, presented to him as his mount to help him travel the world in his role.
he will also be aware that kuja is not a human; he's secretly a Genome, a kind of monkey, first of a sub-breed made to... seteth wouldn't be in on all of the details of the master plan, actually, but whatever it is, it's of Dire Importance to save the souls of his true(?)/previous master, Garland, 's people. Kuja's strong personality was an accident, but he's born to be a grifter and charlatan, using his magic and ability to pass as a human to advance The Grand Plan. im keeping it vague on purpose since i don't wanna just 1:1 ffix here ofc.
and seteth is his only confidant, the one being with whom he can let down all his veils. since he was there before they got put on. ]

Rook Hunt | Twisted Wonderland | OTA
InstagramMagicam famous. Wanna be the next Grumpy Cat?As a pet, Rook is a bird of prey, exotic but perhaps shockingly easy to handle even if you do adopt him as a feral instead of as a pet. As happy and affectionate as he is, he's still just a bit wild; expect to get "gifts" of either dead or terrified vermin and local wildlife, and unfortunately acrobatic 3 AM zoomies if you don't keep him active enough. He's a lot more trouble to maintain than one of the more commonly popular songbirds--but even in spite of how energetic he is, he's almost as good to dress up for admiration as they are, and sings and dances quite beautifully for his owner even if he wasn't bred for it. Who's up for some falconry?

on the other hand, when she came to rook's care, she'd been rattled by something and even struggled to finish her meals. exotic pet people veterinary care cited immense stress, and noted with some displeasure that her breeders seemed to be having this problem a lot lately.
well.
all's well that ends well, if she's out of there, right? and it'd been a slow process. but rook's keen eyes may notice that today, not only has mafuyu finished her meal, but she's even politely helped herself to a shiny red apple. wild! )
Adela | Original Character | OTA
As an owner, she's going to dote on her pet even if they may not necessarily like her. It's mostly because she wants the companionship enough to try and make it work no matter what. Getting her to admit that may be like pulling teeth, though.
Assumed CR may be needed, depending on what we want to do. I would rather not play with all sex all the time, breeding, or pregnancy at this time. It's totally cool if the thread doesn't wind up going into shippy or smutty territory at all, depending on how our characters bounce. ]]

It would be best if he was alone. He didn't need to drag someone else down with him.

Vash felt responsible for a lot of things, but he refuses to be the source of yet more persecution of pets. Even knowing how vehemently

Their current abode is a ramshackle apartment at the far edge of town. They're quite literally squatting here, with Vash having taken up residence in an empty space knowing that this building was one of those that was a bit less well-off, and a lot more lax with their protocol. As long as they weren't found staying here, it was fine...for now. They were living on borrowed time, he knew, but at least they had a roof over their heads. Mayoi Ayase | Assembling some stars | OTA
[As a pet he can be either the fluffiest most neurotic cat, or he can be a more exotic choice: A bat (still neurotic) with big wide ears and wings.]
[lots of options!!! Hit me up!!]
pet Tatsumi here he goes
Mayoi-san... Let's take a deep breath together. Slowly, in through your nose... One... two... three... And then out through your mouth...
[He consciously tries to ease his ears back from being flat and irritated before Mayoi sees. They're not his fault, after all.]

Tatsumi Kazehaya | Ensemble Stars!! | OTA
As a master, Tatsumi may need a comfort companion to help him deal with his traumatic injury, or he may have rescued the pet out of the goodness of his heart!
Open to anyone!]
Slides in here..
[A well-bred, high class pet is what he was, and little else. He had no protections, no rights, no place to go if the home he’d been sold into turned out rotten. And so …here he was, having fled the estate of his owners for literally any reprieve he could be granted.]
[The world did not treat his kind with much mercy when they stepped out of line, and so Mayoi knew his time was borrowed. As the rain poured down, he finally found himself running out of breath and hopelessly lost in an unfamiliar part of town. He doesn’t think he’s being sought yet, but how long…]
[Oh. A church…? Ah, just places make him uneasy, but …well. He had nothing to lose. Quietly as he can, he will crack open the doors and peer inside.]
