Vash has mastered the art of smiling and nodding as the vendor chats with him, and yeah…he’s well used to these attitudes, and honestly he doesn’t even hold it against most people. Most average people, at least, don’t see anything wrong with it. Why would they? Society treats it as not only normal, but expected. There are outliers who take things too far of course, but in a general sense…owning pets makes up their culture. It’s just the way things are, what everyone has always known.
Yet Vash likely never would have had a pet, if it weren’t for his frustrating habit of picking up strays.
