The Humanoid Typhoon has spared no civilization, and on the news people say "it's only a matter of time, don't get complacent", and it's...hard, knowing the truth behind it all. To that end, this little mountain town is one of the few Vash has seen lately that seems to disregard the warnings. They're so secluded, it couldn't happen to them, surely...
He has to pray Nai doesn't find him here. Please, not here. Not where the children run around in the snow, where people hark their wares in little stalls on street corners, where even the pets thrive. Don't take all of that away.
Vash lets Ain lean against him, and more than anything, he wishes he could put an arm around him. Hold him.
Eventually, they come up on the edge of the town they haven't passed, and Vash notices a side road that veers off from the buildings that he takes automatically. It leads them up a slight slope, and it isn't long before they leave most of the other residents behind.]
