[As much as Vash hates to admit it...Ain is right. Had they dawdled for much longer, Ain might be worse off than he is now, and trying to take things on foot could have multiplied their trip into weeks as opposed to days. That's not something they could have afforded, even if Vash would have carried Ain one-armed the entire way if he had to. In this case, there's really no room for could or should haves.
He remembers his conversation with Eve and Chung, about how he should probably talk to Ain about being self-sacrificing. But here...how can he tell Ain "Well, you shouldn't have done that" when ultimately he did make the best decision he could have, even if it was at the cost of himself?
