[Vash asks that, and even though Raven's and Add's eyes don't meet — Raven is looking at Vash and Add is obviously lasered in on the heavy, military-grade arm laying across his table right now — the Group Braincell says the same thing. "You don't actually know Ain at all, do you?" Neither of them want to say it — Add is particularly awful at emotional conversations himself, and Raven tends to be a rather private person — so there's a brief moment of silence, with Raven pursing his lips in a thoughtful hum as he tries to think about the topic and fill the void.
The fact that Vash doesn't know Ain isn't so much a fault of either of them so much as it is that Ain tends to make his core personality "I love my friends" and find very few interests from there. He doesn't care much for food, has said it himself, though he does prefer sweets — he would sooner wish to God to be someone who doesn't need to eat to live, though, because food is not very important to him. Not that he has a bad relationship with it, he's just Like That in general. He doesn't seem to care about the clothes he wears, except for liking that one bright shade of verdigris a whole lot. His hair ribbon wasn't something he was super attached to, but he gave it to Vash and liked it better there anyway.
At his core, he's a bird. He likes shiny and pretty things. He likes flowers and singing, and he likes people. People fascinate him. He wants to play and have fun, but beyond that, there's extremely little he cares for. Ain is simply a religiously-traumatized bird who doesn't know who he is, doesn't know what existence is, and the one thing he knows is that his heart belongs to his friends and that, somehow, he really, really fell head-over-heels for Vash.
For what little it's worth, Raven eventually comes up with a somewhat-answer to the question.]
I don't think any of us know, but... He has the tendency to wander off. If he's upset, he walks away. If he's confused about something, he walks away. If he's bored, he walks away. I'm sure you've seen it at some point. Sometimes, he just gets distracted and leaves. This time... he said he was going on "an adventure". Elsword offered to go with him, but he said no.
[Which is weird, for Ain, not that Vash has any awareness of that.]
That bastard freaked everyone out when he didn't come back for a week. We assumed he was going topside to fuck around, not completely bail. Luckily, he's easy to track with Dynamo, and I was able to confirm— [oops the stalking charge. Add clears his throat.] —he was fine. Just doing whatever shit he gets up to. Left his damn dog behind with Harnier, too, so he was planning to be gone for a while.
And it's not as though he can write, since we can't have couriers coming down here, so we just had to hope he was alive and wonder if he'd show up again one day.
