[No shade, they're absolutely right to think that. Vash doesn't know Ain, just as much as Ain really doesn't know Vash either. Neither of them have been together long enough to really know what the other is about entirely, but that doesn't mean they love each other any less. Both of their situations are complicated. Vash isn't human, and neither is Ain. Vash grew up having to be taught the way of the world while feeling like he both did and didn't belong. Meanwhile, Ain has never been on the same level as humans, yet is as fascinated with them and their lives as Vash tends to be. They're as similar as they are completely different.
Vash listens like he's being given insider information about Ain, genuinely curious as to what the answer might be, and honestly? It...makes sense, for what he knows about the bird. He will simply wander off if the mood strikes him. If he's curious about something, he'll go check it out. If he's determined to get something done, he'll go do it.
It leaves Vash feeling...equal parts worried, and also guilty for being someone who acts similarly, but for different reasons. How, often, Vash would vacate a city, or leave someone he cared about, just for the purpose of keeping them safe. Ain has never been exempt in that regard, even if he's not sure how he'd handle such an idea now. But it does make him wonder.
Would Ain...leave? If there came a time where he got upset enough, or even bored...?
Vash realizing in just a few words that maybe he should talk...to Ain...more......but how to even bring up a subject like this. It feels impossible, never mind inappropriate. He doesn't want Ain to think he'd ever accuse him of anything, either.
It is like 8 am and Vash has so many thoughts suddenly.]
I'm...not sure how long he was gone before we found each other, to be honest. I had recently left the last settlement I was at, and I was traveling alone. We just sort of...bumped into each other. He never really went anywhere after that.

I'm glad he ended up coming back here, though. I'm not sure he would have, if I hadn't broken my arm.
