It was a couple days later that people started to avoid me. I don't know who realized it could have been a nekomata, but it spread and some of you guys don't exactly have a good reputation... even for people who build their careers off of hunting us down.

( the last bit is said all too dryly. but it's... not wrong. the fact that humans get to have a known, respected occupation based on hunting yokai, who live in scrutiny, is kind of... how do you say... fucked? worse that it's justifiable. but she's heard stories of hunters that'd take down the stray yokai and then mark ones they knew for later- like attracts like, after all.

Eventually a shopkeeper let me know what was happening. ... I... wound up hiding for a couple days. But that's not going to fix this.

I'm not here to persecute yokai indiscriminately. I want to see justice done, and that means for you too. For all intents and purposes, for the time being, I believe what you're telling me is true.

i love the mystery aspect but also cant wait for them to just be a yokai hunter and his crime cat

( she'd like to say that she's an unreadable wall of stone- but even without her ears and tail, jinx is a girl who wears her heart on her sleeve on some level, regardless of how much she may want to. the way her shoulders sag even though she sits up for a moment before relaxing into the chair again, the spark of hope in her eyes- her relief is more than evident. but then she's back to business. )

I want to find the person who's throwing me under the bus like this. ( she's gonna destroy them, but like. several dead, at least one innocent framed? they've earned it. ) And I know the area. But I'm not goin' into any holding facility, got it?

You know the area, which means you know every nook, cranny, and possible hiding place for other yokai to blend in. We need to ask around and see if any others saw something you didn't. Look for clues at the scene. That sort of thing.

( oh wow, they really were on the same page, weren't they? who'd have thought? ... granted, he probably won't be pleased to know she plans on hexing the culprit until they're begging for mercy, but still. a cat's gotta do what a cat's gotta do. )

( jinx inhales, and in a puff of smoke, she's gone- and in her place is a particularly fluffy, small black cat with green eyes... that shine pink when she 'talks' again, split-tails flicking back and forth. )

Hope you don't mind being a cat person for a while. But no one's going to trust me as I was.

[He tilts his head a bit towards the exit, leading the way with the expectation she'll trot at his heels.]

The actual scene of the incident isn't going to be something we can just walk up on, but I imagine we'll be able to do some of our own sleuthing in the surrounding areas.

You could probably ask to at least see pictures for the records, since it's for your job. Anything to help a hunter and all that.
