Chi | Heroes + Villains
and today is just the most recent one, when a sweet shopping plaza falls under attack. two boys with super strength land first, cracking pavement and announcing their presence- from there, it all erupts at once, with those two leading the charge and ready to act as the buffer for inevitable resistance. a small child with his metal spider legs scatters around, disrupting security measures menacing guards with his drones, while the cyclops and the pale, mute boy work together to find and snatch safes and vaults. in the center of the chaos, jinx stands proud and issues a command with a flourish: )
HIVE Five, eat 'em alive!
( it gets attention- and causes civilians caught in everything to flee. heroes will be on scene soon, she thinks as she hops down to the ground with grace, keeping an eye out on her team. gizmo's cackling some crude insults over the coms. ... who taught him that sort of language? honestly.
well.
might as well have fun while she can. )
no subject
Today, stopping them is part of Izuku's job.
Unlike HIVE, Izuku had been spending the better part of the last year and a half rigorously training himself to do hero work. U.A. was the best in the business when it came to preparing young heroes for their future careers, even if it also had the highest general track record of casualties. Kidnappings, what have you...the fact remained that Izuku had experience. So when he's sent from his place of internship to clean up the havoc being caused at a nearby shopping plaza, he ends up beating out all of his fellow heroes on arrival. Probably not that surprising, considering the fact that one of his Quirks main enhancements has to do with speed.
It isn't long before Jinx really sends out her team that she'll hear a voice coming from one of the skylights above as Izuku holds himself up with one hand in the frame of the broken window-pane, his other curved at his side with the tell-tale green sparks of One For All licking all the way up to his shoulder.]
Sorry, but that's not happening!
[Izuku is the only hero on the scene, making it Jinx and her team against one. An unfair exchange, perhaps, but Izuku doesn't falter even then as he hops his way down to the ground floor. Once he's there, he'll affix Jinx herself with his undivided attention, bracing a hand against one of his wrists as he holds his other hand out towards her, one of his fingers held bent beneath his thumb.]
I'm giving you one chance to surrender.
me, remembering i suck so bad at action scenes: (baymax voice) oh no
Or what? ( and she speaks softly, like she's not leading an armed raid against civilians, like she's not ready to rot the cloth of his costume with a touch if he's foolish enough to get within range. like she wouldn't bite with that razor-sharp smile until he bled if she had to. ) The big, strong hero's gonna stop us?
I think you're not really in a position to be making such absurd demands like that.
( before he can answer, she sends a wave of gentle-looking pink light his way with a flourish. if it connects, it's nothing but pure concentrated pain and a split-second short-circuit of his nerves, but it also isn't quite as fast as she'd like.
jinx starts walking towards the left, slow and deliberate until given reason to bolt into further action- the ease in her shoulders and the serenity among the alarms feels natural, but she never once takes her eyes off of deku. what to do, what to do...? she'd wanted to do some 'shopping', but it looks like that'll have to wait for another time. )
LMAO its okay, aren't we all
It hurts. All of his muscles seem to lock up at once, even moreso with the power of OFA coursing through them, causing his back to arch and his fingers to twitch as he doubles over. It's not quite the best first impression he's ever had, to be honest. But since it lasts for only a moment, he's able to relatively quickly shake it off- hopefully readying himself before Jinx can do anything else. Especially now that she's approaching him, prompting him to lift his hands again.
If she attacks a second time, he'll be forced to make a move. He'd prefer not to have to fight, especially in a populated area such as this, but...]
Nnggh...you don't want to fight me. Trust me.
we're just... gonna Do This I Guess

yama & nms | danganronpa but there's someone who sees through the cult shit and jin's weirder
had they told her the whole story, however, that hook never would have had a chance. no one likes getting two surprise roommates after all- and what's the deal with her being the only girl? of course they didn't tell her until now, when she was sitting across from the principal himself, glaring at a small stack of papers with such intensity no one would be surprised if it burst into flames. something about helping a student discover his own 'talent'- god she was getting sick of that word already- and assisting in that by exposing him to two volatile and unusual 'talents' themselves. because luck is contagious and so is magic, clearly.
... it was really tempting to light the information packet on fire, actually. )
Is this some kind of joke? Literally what part of this sounds like a good idea-
( she's been at this for a bit now. so when her... future roommates approach the office, they may hear the rant continue. particularly, through the wooden door- )
What do you think this is, My Little Pony!? You watch too many episodes about the Cutie Mark Crusaders or whatever, old man? God--
( and when the door opens she flops back in her seat, crossing her arms and legs both and glaring at anything and everything. the new arrivals may have saved everyone from her temper, it seems. if the principal takes the time to explain everything himself, she's stopped paying attention, even as she's introduced as "felicity morais"- though he doesn't get a chance to mention her title outloud, because at that point his drink randomly tips over, and that sure is hot coffee everywhere! ... not that it matters, they'll see it when they read their own packets. the air feels staticky around her though, and if kirigiri is unnerved, he's not showing it... but he's definitely dropping things more than a man of his caliber probably should? )
Lucifer is here to pick up his Daughter
Most powerful of the seven sins, the fallen Morning Star, right hand of the Prince of the Devildom itself, and here he is, standing in a summoning circle made by whatever was foolish enough to think they can control him. He can make this quick; scare the summoner off, kill them if they get too in his face, whatever — Lucifer has zero interest in a pact in this day and age and to be frank his whole "be nice to the humans" thing only goes so far when he's quite literally being dragged out of his home into whatever petty things that a summoner could possibly want. Power, revenge, whatever, he's about to have none of it—
Until he looks around and realises that the summoner in question seems to be... a kid? Which— alright, sure, that makes even less sense. Is this a prank? Surely a little kid wouldn't even know the logistics of summoning a whole demon. And so...
Lucifer stares down at the child in question, brows raised and wings flexing, and all he can do is question,]
Are you the one who called me forth?
no subject
Well, you certainly weren't what I had in mind when I called for help, but I am. No one else in this house could.
( which might explain just a little bit of what's happening. she doesn't move from where she's sitting, but lucifer might notice that the girl is powerful. perhaps too much so, like a stick of dynamite condenced into a matchstick. he might also notice that the circle he stands within isn't even explicitly for summoning a demon- just a call for help, written out as she'd implied.
it's only when there's a loud thump from outside of the dark room that she flinches, keeping an eye on the door. )
Chi | Monster AU | CW: human experimentation, dehumanization
at least doctors howell and mahoney seem upset at the implications... but they're complicit none the less. doctor valentine tries to sneak him some kindness here and there, candy and little toys that he's allowed to keep because removing them or not simply doesn't matter, keeps calling him a he. the security guards don't look at him, and the computer techs that now about him aren't about to risk morais's wrath.
how long has it been? who knows. certainly not Subject D-32. and who knew enough about him to realize he ever went missing? did the school even care when he stopped showing up?
maybe the worst part is that the south wall is entirely mirrors, and the north wall is reinforced glass where he can see doctor morais and the others, and the glow of their computers and equipment at all hours.
maybe the worst part is what the mirror reflects sitting on the cot.
the tests are painful regardless of arcane or chemical or mechanic and the reflection warps more and more after the especially long ones, and there are no windows, and no real way to keep track of how long it's been. which is why when help finally arrives in the form of a stolen usb stick copied overnight and returned later, in a girl with a bike and a grudge pulling up outside one night, he has no idea.
the scientists are all in the observation room right now, talking quietly. the guards are at ease, no one ever comes to the woods and the other subjects are too sedated to try anything. everything is going according to plan. )
no subject
The first few days had been the worst. Possibly more grueling than the actual testing and subsequent transformations themselves. He'd been distraught, hysterical even as he fought against his captors, but it wasn't long until he'd been pumped so full of sedative drugs that he could scarcely do more than breathe and move his eyes. Honestly, he wasn't sure his body had been running at full capacity since that day. Everything felt so...slow. As if time itself were halted in this place. No one ever came for him. No one must have cared for one missing boy whose own name had been scrubbed out of mind and spoken word to further pull his identity away. So long as he remained a letter and a couple digits, the inhumane acts performed on him seemed less...well.
Inhumane.
He couldn't understand the purpose of the mirrors. Why continue to show him this visage, this...monster that they'd created? Was it to remind him of what use he had to these people? How insignificant he was as nothing more than an elaborately expensive experiment? Sometimes he wondered if they would destroy him once they were done playing with him and experimenting to see just how far they could push the limits of human ingenuity.
His body ached, constantly. New things appeared by the week. He just wanted to sleep.
Today is the same as all of the rest. Mind numbing and pointless. Even the attempts of the doctor to try to keep the "boy"'s spirits up had eventually ceased to do anything for him. He couldn't find pleasure or any real enjoyment when he knew that the moment he tried to have a brief respite, it would be back for more tests. He has no reason to think today will be any different.]
no subject
outside is another story. a breaker rigged to be cut in a few minutes, all kinds of things designed to disrupt the electricity and mess with the technology within and one sneaky girl finding her way through the vents... it really is too easy sometimes. at her call, they go off.
the power shuts down, startling everyone within. the backup generator only kicks in enough to restart some of the lights, and subject d-32 can see the scientists all shuffling out, a comment about how they might need to 'sedate everything on this floor' being sighed out.
as the door clicks behind them on the other side of the glass, it goes quiet. everything is dark, but there's some red lights flickering there. but really, that's not the important thing here. what is is the puff of air as a piece of the wall on his own side slides to the side. and on the other side of it is a girl in a motorcycle helmet and somewhat baggy jacket hiding her body, beckoning him over. at her hip is a few rods and tubes, some with odd pink glows and others plain. when she speaks, her voice is soft and quiet. )
Hey- over here. I'm getting you out of this place. Hurry.
( the doors she'd tampered with would only hold for so long, after all. )
no subject
When the girl suddenly opens up the side wall where d-32 is housed, he goes very, very still. Yet, he seems to expand where he's huddled up in the corner of his enclosure (because that's what it really is, given the way he's seen more as a specimen than a boy), because every part of him that can briefly shifted to make himself look bigger. His scales, any webbing visible on him, the frills lining his neck, back, and tail. But once he realizes that he's being asked to...
...
He doesn't move. He stays in place, not even shivering. Completely paralyzed with maybe fear, or indecision, or something else hard to quantify. His eyes are wide and the only thing truly visible in the dark, reflecting what little light there is back at her. Even if his expression is distant and resigned (as much as his face can emote these days), his eyes are alight with terror.]

Chi | Yokai + Hunter
... still, when a monster attacks too many humans, it has to be stopped, and that is what hunters are for. in return, human cities have their own yokai as well, but they play by human rules. no murder, no eating humans, and if magic is being used it must sit within human laws as well. they can live peacefully if not mischievously, and spirits and humans fall into an easy life together. they just have to follow the laws. hunters are even more protective in the cities, after all.
which is the problem, considering there's been a string of murdered humans at the hands of a yokai downtown, and all signs are pointing to the only nekomata in that corner of the city, and she knows she's completely innocent.
people who realized it are giving her a wide berth, and she can't quite blame them. but no one's even giving her a chance to say her piece, and she's never met a yokai hunter- she doesn't know what to expect when they finally decide to come for her. eventually, she gets asked to not come in to work at the bookstore for a few days.
fine.
when the hunter finally comes for her, he'll find her waiting in an abandoned building, cat ears flat, eyes narrowed and tail flicking slowly from side to side as she lounges in an old chair, chin in one hand. maybe she's spent the past few hours just screaming her frustration out and clawing up the attic above them, maybe not. but despite her slack posture, jinx is ready and waiting. )
no subject
It made Izuku's job...difficult. And while he prided himself in his work, he wasn't one of those zealots who took pleasure in hunting yokai. He was a hunter in title only. His priority was seeing that both sides were treated fairly with the proper respect and representation. That's why he's agreed to come meet with this yokai today, to see if he can act as some form of mediary force so that she'd actually be given the opportunity to defend herself. A rarity, in cases such as these.
He enters the building slowly, spotting her long after she's noticed his presence, no doubt. She'll do well to notice he's armed, but he's being careful to keep his hands up where she can see them. He doesn't want any trouble here. He's just here to speak with her.]
So you came.
no subject
( there's no hiding that she's angry and bitter, but. well. it's hard not to be with a situation like this! nekomata already have a bad rap- the, uh. necromancy probably didn't help any, nor did the ability to consume souls and the general history of causing misery. but those were old stories- it'd been thousands of years, yokai have changed- this was ridiculous.
and yet, all it took was a similar magic residue, claws and fur, and she was on her own.
again.
sighing, jinx crosses her legs, trying not to claw up the armrest. as relieving as scratching things up was, she didn't need him thinking she was violent already. ... provided he didn't look in the attic. after a moment of silent staring, she sighs.)
... I didn't do it. I don't even know who those people are. And everyone knows that- that eating people is how you lose yourself.
( despite the hunter trying to be reassuring... part of her is already resigned, in truth. she can run faster than he can pull out a weapon. but he's willing to at least try, so she will too. )
no subject
Izuku stays a respectful distance away, standing in the middle of the floor as he lets Jinx speak first.]

Chi | Mermaid
literally.
human ropes were twisty things, hard to see in murky waters even when you're not terribly distracted and now pushed over the verge of panic- and the ropes moving upwards helped no matters. she's not the only thing caught, which kind of soothes her wounded pride, but when she finds herself upheaved from the sea and dropped on some hard surface... the soothing is gone, her side is in terrible pain- bleeding, actually, so leaving the water was probably for the best but she doesn't want to say it- and she whips a glare at the first human she sees with a snarl as soon as she regains herself, forcing herself up on one elbow while her other hand is pressed over the wound. )
How dare you?!
no subject
Not today, it seemed, for he'd pulled up one of the biggest specimens he'd not just ever caught, but ever seen. One couldn't blame him for thinking he'd fished up a shark, so he's literally jumping back from the net to avoid potential biting jaws when it falls down onto the dock, most of it containing his usual meager catches, some wayward crabs that had accidentally gotten scooped in as well, and...
Talking. He's being talked to. No...yelled at.
Izuku doesn't just step back- he falls back flat on his ass as he stares back into eyes burning with fury and indignation. Meanwhile, he hardly looks like a human who could do Jinx any real harm, even if he wanted to. He's having a hard enough time wrapping his head around what he's seeing as it is.]
Wha- E- eeeeh!?
... she might be on the verge of sensory overload oh no
beneath the water it was quiet. most things couldn't make themselves be heard, or simply didn't make sounds- though even without mermaids there were exceptions. on the wooden pier, however, it was different. the waves seemed to roar and crash, the birds' cries were shrill and piercing, and it felt like there was sound everywhere- how did humans stand it? it's too much--
even though she wants to keep glaring, jinx can only look away as she curls up a bit, like it will even do anything. there's no answer for your half-question this time, izuku- but that sure is a tail instead of legs.
congratulations on your catch! )

Chi | Heroes + Villains but we add Amnesia
here's how it looks to the unaffected but close: it's a busy day at the train station, and even criminals have their day-to-day lives. some are boarding, some are exiting, and then in a thirty feet radius, people just... drop. and then the radius expands. no one's out for too long, but when they come to... anyone over 15 looks at a complete loss as to what's happening. anyone under 15 is also pretty confused and worried, but it becomes clear that it's not the same when someone asks their own son "who are you?" and more respond to each other the same way.
and then panic spreads as more people begin to drop again. there's a scramble to get out of the station, and authorities are alerted. it's a struggle to get in or out... so one girl sits where she had dropped, curling her legs in so as to not trip anyone and watches in a quiet, terrified confusion that she dares not voice. she doesn't know this, but she'd been on her way to a book store, so she looks like a normal girl- braided hair, fashionable but comfortable outfit, and not a single clue as to what that humming energy just beneath her skin is.
eventually heroes get in, and eventually someone touches her shoulder. she should recognize him- he's been a personal thorn in her side for months now. but instead she gives him a blank if not worried look, because it really is just a terrible situation all around. when she speaks, it won't carry the same sharp tone she forces out that deku may know- instead she sounds soft as she naturally should, delicate almost. her own id is in her fingers, since it's the only clue to who she is right now. it reads: Morais, Felicity A. )
Did... you need something?
no subject
They'd forgotten everything. Everything. Themselves, what they were doing...it's a truly awful Quirk, and they don't have any idea whether it's something that would wear off or need actual intervention to repair. Usually for incidences like this, assuming the person responsible didn't flee, they'd be questioned but otherwise not charged unless people had died. Quirks often couldn't be controlled, but this? It's clear upon further inspection that this was an attack, and a targeted one at that.
But today, Izuku's job isn't to chase criminals, but to assist and aid the victims. He'd already helped a few back to ambulances to be taken away, but when he comes across a girl sitting in the middle of the floor, he thinks little of reaching out to gently get her attention.
When she looks at him, he speaks before he can stop himself.]
J...jinx...?
no subject
( and she looks up to him again, as if he would have the answers- as if the answers wouldn't be sharp and painful and frankly terrible. and he shouldn't have to be the one to tell her- this entire situation shouldn't be happening in general.
but it is. and considering that the culprits got away, it likely won't be the only time it does... not that jinx is even thinking of such things. she barely registers what's happening now, let alone what the future will entail.
after a moment, she- jinx? felicity? which... what is she?- almost startles before leaning over just a bit. )
