Hello, and welcome to The Care and Keeping of Your Pet! As you surely know, a pet is a big responsibility, and we're so glad you've decided to be a concientious master. A safe pet is a happy pet, and this handbook is certain to keep your precious lifelong friend as content as can be.
The history of the animal person is a long and difficult one, with their origins not being known even to this day. However, scientists believe that despite our common appearance - most animal people have humanoid forms except for the ears, tails, and sometimes teeth - we share no common ancestry, even if the ascent of this species corresponds with that of the homo sapien. We gained dominance over each breed thousands of years ago, beginning with the dog type, who have long been considered "man's best friend." Most breeds these days are docile and perfect for owners of any speed.
Of course, it is our duty as the superior species to take care of these animal creatures, and this is inherent in their genetic makeup. Everyone knows that an animal person, when matched with their correct human master, is loyal for life - a true "soulmate," if you will. Far be it for us to turn this away! Ever since the Great Domestication, these intelligent and loving animals have served us as friends, workmates, guardians, servants, and sexual companions and will for years to come. Despite recent hubbub from so-called "Pet People's Rights Activists," this way of life is wholesome and good. Scientific research shows that the natural desire of the pet person is to be owned and cared for by a human.
So, it's your first pet. What do you need to know?
As previously stated, pet people come in as many breeds as you can possibly think of. By far and away the most popular are the dog and cat types, but exotic birds and lizards have been gaining popularity among trendsetters from L.A. to Tokyo!
All pet types are best suited for certain jobs, and when hunting for one, it is best to search for a type that suits your needs best.
However, a "True Match" - when a pet person bonds with you and only you for the rest of their natural lives - comes naturally, and sometimes takes time before you can find the pet you will be able to give a forever home to.
According to all current research, pet people are completely sentient and like us in many ways. However, it is important to remember that they have many animalistic and feral characteristics. Do not be foolish and think that your pet is a person, despite the facts that many are clothed and may be allowed to read, write, and have "hobbies." Some traditional pet owners may eschew these frivolities, and that is within their right.
Pet people age more quickly than humans, at least physically, and many types have long lifespans. It is not uncommon for pets to be passed through the family. When getting your child their first pet, it's important to keep in mind that just because the pup is tiny now, a grown pet can be jumpy around a small child.
It is important to train a pet. Discipline will be necessary. This does not make you a bad owner. Failure to train early will result in a rebellious pet. Training is especially important if you want your pet to serve as a household servant.
Remember, your pet will be extremely protective of you, especially if you are Truly Bonded. It is best to socialize them early. A socialized pet is a perfect family pet.
These days, unowned and unbonded pet people are allowed to live as strays or "Frees" in certain designated areas. Some even hold "jobs." This is against their best interest, and owners who adopt these strays are to be rewarded. Still, the best place to get pets are from liscenced kennels or breeders.
Some masters find it beneficial to participate in activities with their pets, such as shows and other competitions.
Finally, much has been made about the sexual relationship between pet and master. This is a normal facet of the bond, and humans are sure to find pet people sexually alluring. But beyond that, it is only responsible and prudent for owners to care for their pet's needs. It is a well-known fact that the libidos of pet people are remarkably strong, and when they go into heat, it is usually more convenient for a master to relieve them. There is no risk of pregnancy. All rumors of hybrids are urban legends.
Despite this, masters must remember to not view their pets as romantic partners. Humans should stay with humans.
With that said, thank you and welcome to your first day as a pet's master! |

When he suddenly gasps like that, Vash does at least have enough self awareness to slow his movements for a moment, watching as Ain peers at him over his shoulder.]
Eh? Did I…
[Did his hand really get too close? He didn’t even realize, his feathers are just so soft all along the entire wing that he didn’t notice. Also, pounce?
Pounced on…
……]
A-ah! Oh! I’m sorry-!
[It seems that he gets the message, his expression suddenly sheepish and apologetic, as he’s quick to say:]
I don’t want any trouble…nobody has to get pounced today, message received.
[……]
no subject
Hm.
He flexes his wings a bit, partly because holding them in one place for too long makes the muscles stiff, partly because he's a showoff. Yes, his wings are very soft and nice and shiny, and his feathers are very high quality because he is just SO stunning, etc, please tell him he's pretty.]
It's an invitation. [He says, casually, like he's talking about the weather.] If you want to, remember? Otherwise... haha, you can just forget I said so, right?
[He's Behaving. He's Behaving as well as an unruly bird can Behave.]
no subject
An invitation…to bite me?
[Vash is a good Christian boy, who might also be stupid.]
no subject
Ain hums. Oh he is Dealing with a virgin isn't he. Okay. Those are fun, he'll try not to be mean—]
A little more than biting would be fun, don't you think? [...Sigh, okay, maybe he'll be a bit more forward.] You know what an erogenous zone is, right? When I warned you not to put your hands too close...
[He trails off. Vash do you Get It—]
no subject
It takes him a moment. Then another…
Then, his face turns a comical shade of red.]
Oh! Oh. Oh, Ain, I- I’m sorry, I didn’t realize-
[He apologizes, as if Ain isn’t looking him in the eye like “you can touch but only if you can cash those checks you’re writing”.]
That your. Your wings were….yeah.
no subject
You're stupid. [He likes that in a man.] I should have been more forward with you, so it's my fault. I didn't want you to feel awkward.
[Maybe it's too late now. The glance Ain's fixing him with is coquettish, like he really is about to pounce on him for real. He's behaving so far.]
When I said I would pounce on you, I meant it in more of a... hm, playful way. A "we're going to be in bed soon" way.
...
You're not straight, right? [PLEASE do not be straight—]
no subject
He glances off to the side, turning even redder. There’s yet more he’s never talked about, re: his previous pet. But the sexual tension between the two of them was high. Nothing ever happened, but it was more for Vash’s lack of ability to make a move…not wanting to make their relationship weird because he couldn’t deliver. Which is funny, considering the fact that 99.9% of pet/owner arrangements ARE sexual.]
N-no, I…I like men.
[…]
Maybe both? I’m not straight.
[So: yes
Also being called stupid equally does not phase him, that’s just an average Tuesday for Vash-]
no subject
He'll have to be nice...r than he ordinarily would be. That's fine and all, since he really doesn't want to break Vash's brain. Maybe he'll just flirt a bit and see where it leads.
Or. Or. He could have no impulse control and kiss Vash's jawline, yeah let's do that—]
Good. I didn't think you were, based on how you act, [RUDE?] but you had me worried for a moment.
no subject
-oh. Oh, no. Oh no he’s being kissed.
So fun fact about Vash, and also about Plants in general: he lives his life wildly curious about everything, and learning something new with each day that passes. He’s different from Nai in that way, who was a lot more stoic and straight forward about things. Vash, meanwhile, wanted to do everything. See everything. And he loves the world, and all of the people in it, even if they don’t love him sometimes.
So when Ain kisses his jawline, Vash completes his transformation into a tomato. He’s a tomato boy now.]
That’s, um…
[He laughs, breathless, and impulsively reaches a hand up to rest against the back of Ain’s head.]
That feels nice…
no subject
Ain readjusts again, this time sitting up and tucking his wings back. Now, he can spin around to face Vash fully, and then plop down in his lap. While Vash is :3?, Ain is >:3c.]
Doesn't it? [He agrees, looping his arms around Vash's neck loosely.] Haha, you'll tell me if I need to stop, right?
[Ain's just decided he's going for it now. Sorry, they're having this conversation and there are no brakes. Instead, there are only more kisses (and very light trills, if one listens hard enough) to Vash's cheeks and his jaw and anywhere else Ain can reach on his face. He's affectionate without fault, and maybe if Vash decides this is Not Appropriate behaviour for a pet he can tell Ain to step off and they can just pretend it was Ain being very cuddly the whole time.]
no subject
[But Vash is generally pretty terrible about being assertive or telling Ain to do anything, which is probably a boon for the bird. It means he can get away with a lot, because all Vash cares about is Ain being safe and happy. All else comes at a close second, which is why- when he hears those soft trills- he starts paying a little more attention. The kisses, the soft touches, the arms looped around his neck…
It could be inappropriate, if he were a different type of person. But they’ve already been pretty damn close. Vash pets and holds Ain all the time. This is really just a natural progression of all of that, probably.
He laughs softly after a moment- the kisses tickle, after all- tilting his head a bit into it. His hair mingles with Ain’s, and after a moment he lifts his prosthetic hand carefully to lay against the small of his back. Does he have tail feathers asking for a friend-]
We could have been doing this more, if I knew you liked it!
[ :3
He might be stupid]
no subject
Believe it or not, I try not to jump the bones of every boy I see. [He Looks admiringly from a distance mostly, but he's glued himself onto Vash so hard that most of that has been waylaid.] Ha... you don't seem to have much experience, so I'll be nice, but the guard rails are off next time.
[N. Next time—]
You've never been kissed before, right? Do you want me to show you how?
[Oh the crimes he got up to in the time between escaping his first owner and meeting Vash...]
no subject
It's kindof hard for Vash to be straight at all when Ain is in his vicinity, so there's that. He's too distracted by thinking about how soft he is, namely while he absently lets his fingers pull through his tailfeathers one time.]
I haven't. I'm not sure I'll be very good at it, ahah...
[Read: he won't be. At all. But damn if Vash isn't a fast learner.
Also w, what do you mean next time-]
But...if you don't mind that. I wouldn't mind learning.
no subject
Haha... I have a lot to show you, don't I?
[Oh Vash sweetie you got a big storm comin'—
Especially when his hand is pulling through the tailfeathers, and Ain visibly shudders in his lap. Sir. Sir, he's trying to not become a mess already.
Ain plops his hands on either side of Vash's face, thumbs resting gently on his cheekbones. There's a look in his eyes that says no seriously tell me if you need me to stop, and he quietly mentally realises he has no way to explain this with words, so quick sidebar:]
Mimicry is your best friend.
[Okay. Now he tilts his head and dips in for a kiss, all soft and sweet. It's chaste, because he's trying not to frighten Vash off already, or intimidate him, or otherwise be The Worst... he waits a few moments until he starts to gently move his lips against the other's. Not too hard to follow, he hopes.]
no subject
Vash nods quickly, shifting a little in his seat to try to get comfortable. Ain has already made himself comfortable on top of those gangly legs of his, yet he feels like he should be doing more. Should he put his hands somewhere else? Is his mechanical arm going to be a problem? He knows that the metal is cold and unforgiving, which is why he's been trying to avoid using it too much to play with those soft feathers...but those thoughts get brushed to the wayside as Ain takes his face between his hands, squishing his cheeks together just a tiny bit. It's downright comical how much of a cartoon person Vash manages to look like, sometimes, yet even as Ain is trying his best to beam "please tell me if I need to stop because consent is sexy" vibes at him, Vash seems perfectly fine with everything.
If anything, he's just anxious to do a good job, for Ain. Which is why, when the bird finally does lean in to kiss him, a soft sound escapes the back of his throat. It's only mildly surprised- he knew it was coming, after all- and there isn't much time for him to think before Ain shuffles the kiss along gently.
Mimicry...
Vash decides to move his hands, shifting them so that the prosthetic rests on his hip while his other still cradles the back of Ain's head, and from there the only thing left to do is to try to reciprocate. Tilting his head a little as if to mirror his movements, his mouth moving tentatively. It's...not even a terrible kiss actually, mostly because Vash is too focused on doing exactly what Ain does to get over-eager and shove his tongue into his mouth or something.]
no subject
Ain's hands move to rest upon Vash's shoulders instead, since he seems to be catching up. Eventually, hands are just going to get in the way when they really get into it. The hands on him are nice, actually. Nice and more than welcome. Ain doesn't mind the cold metal of Vash's prosthetic, despite the other's internalized worries over it.
Ah, he's cute... it's not fairrrr, Ain's trying to be good and take it slow but what he really, really wants to do is see how many buttons he can press before they have to retreat to the bedroom. Life is so hard, it's so difficult being Ain, et cetera. He has no self-control and he wants to be the over-eager one with his tongue in Vash's mouth. Wordlessly, with that in mind, he parts his lips. Vash won't get that signal, he knows it, so it's Ain who initiates, a little kitten-lick to his bottom lip.
Yes he is half-smirking into their kiss, shut up—]
no subject
Is that the next step, then? He seems to be taking Ain's instructions to heart, because instead of reflexively opening his mouth...he, in turn, copies him by tentatively letting his tongue flick out against Ain's bottom lip, a shiver rushing up his spine at the immediate way it feels odd to his brain, yet right all at the same time.
He chuckles in spite of himself, a quick puff of air through his nose. God he hopes that's right.]
no subject
No words, only action. Ain moves a hand into Vash's hair, like he promised he would earlier when he was half-joking around about doing so. It's soft, he notes. Makes sense, since it always fluffs up as it does, but he finds his fingers threading through the short strands and trying to twirl them regardless.
Pretty...
Ain hums approvingly in the back of his throat, giving a cursory lick into Vash's mouth. Cursory lasts all of five seconds before he's trying to lick his way further inside. It's not like he's trying to choke Vash with his tongue, but also he's not not doing that.]
no subject
Vash's eyes widen a small fraction when he feels Ain's hand slip up into his hair, immediately leading him down the path of realizing that- boy- having your hair played with is very nice. He lets out a soft, pleased sound without meaning to, leaning a bit into the touch of his hands just as Ain is licking his way past his lips and into his mouth proper. And this time...he doesn't even think about it as he opens his mouth in reply, his eyes drifting half closed.
This...should be weird. It should, shouldn't it? But Vash has been on this planet longer than most people have been alive, he's seen people kiss a thousand times before. He knows how it's supposed to work, technically, it just always seemed strange and uncomfortable all those times he's observed it. And also...wet. Very wet.
This is turning out to be some of those things (wet, mostly), but what it is not is uncomfortable. Quite the opposite, in fact...]
Mm...
no subject
It's only when oxygen becomes an absolute necessity that Ain lets the kiss break, unaware just how much his lungs were screaming for air. Still, he doesn't let it break very much, still an inch or so from his master's lips as he speaks up.]
You're a quick learner. What a good boy!
[WHICH one of them is the pet again]
no subject
R-really? Thank you, Ain...!
[Which one of them is the pet-]
You're...really good at this.
[Or, what he assumes must be good, because holy shit.]
no subject
Self-control is so difficult. Who even wants this? Throw it in the trash, Ain is Going to pounce.]
I just have more experience, that's all. Haha, I'll get you there. [Tying into his "next time" promise, because there will be one. He's getting more feral by the second.] I'll take care of you, to make up for all the times you've done the same for me.
[This has a double-meaning. Like yes, he's going to show Vash how to play tonsil hockey like a pro and then get clingier and more possessive over him, no he is not allowed to use these skills on anyone else because he is Ain's and Ain doesn't want to share. But also. Also.
Ain moves a bit, past Vash's lips and to his cheek, to his jaw, and then further to his neck, peppering kisses along the way. Let no one say he's not affectionate in his cute-aggression. There are still no brakes on this train ride, at least until Vash tells him to knock it off. So.
He kisses the sensitive skin there, light and fluttery, trying — and failing — to reign in his need to bite. There's a little, playful nip that hardly leaves a mark behind, and then Ain's moving his hands again to pull at Vash's collar and jacket to get them out of the way. The more fabric he can move, the more places there are to kiss, and he will neglect no part of this man. None.]
no subject
[A little, stuttered exclamation leaves Vash under his breath as Ain suddenly moves to start kissing his face, then his neck. Again, the contact leaves him feeling pleasantly overwhelmed. It's the same way he felt when Rem held his hand for the first time. When she hugged him. When he hugged Nai. Affection, love...these things that Vash has craved for nigh on centuries, but has continually lacked. He closes his eyes for a moment, screwing them shut as he traces his metal hand up the middle of Ain's back, stopping just before he can get to his wings. He's careful not to touch them right now, instead using the leverage he has to pull him closer. It's easy to do since Vash is already leaning back against the couch cushions, making it so that Ain is more-or-less laying upright against his chest.
This...Vash understands, now, how this could become addicting. How this is seen as taboo for a lot of the population, to do such things with your pet.
Thing is...he's already on the fringes of the law. He's not sure he really gives a damn anymore.]
no subject
Butanywaythatsforlater.
The hand pulling him closer is all the approval he really needs to continue down this path. They're about to become something that's way, way different from what they've been this entire time, if only because Ain can't keep his mouth off of the nearest pretty thing he sees to save his life, and that's fine with him. Seems fine with Vash, too.
If he were the least bit considerate, he might ask before he actually starts leaving marks, but he. does not do this. Ain simply goes for it, when he thinks he's kissed everywhere he can reach thus far, opening his mouth and biting down hard enough to leave teeth-shaped bruises in his wake. It's another minute before he speaks again, only when he's satisfied that he's sucked at least three marks over Vash's neck that he's going to have to hide with those high collars of his.]
So pretty... I want to claim you. You don't mind, right?
[did you want to ask that like sixty seconds ago—]
no subject
Vash sure isn't anymore, and if Ain wanted to hear him make more sounds, he'll be getting exactly that. Vash tries to suppress an inward shiver at the sudden sensation of teeth digging into his skin, another gasp leaving him as Ain takes it upon himself to nibble and bite wherever he pleases. Vash...isn't overly concerned about being seen, mostly because he's not often without some sort of injury, and maybe a bite can be explained away by getting into a more-involved-than-usual tussle with somebody, or something. It's fine. He doubts he'll run into anyone who would care enough to ask anyway-
Either way. By the time Ain does finally stop, Vash's head is swimming. He can barely catch his breath, mostly focused on keeping the bird supported in his lap now that all of the blood in his body has rushed to his head.]
Of...of course not. ...I'm already...yours.
